Travel
We left home early on Wednesday 4th January and flew with KLM from Bristol to Kilimanjaro via Amsterdam. Both flights were a little delayed but we arrived in Kilimanjaro pretty much on time. We got our Visas on arrival which was very straight forward and we actually passed through immigration far quicker than those people who had purchased eVisas in advance. When we exited the airport Robert from ACTT was there to meet us and we were soon on our way to Moshi.
Moshi
For the next 4 nights we are staying at More Than A Drop, a small NGO in Moshi, that offers hospitality training to young girls who did not have the opportunity to finish their secondary education. Since we were last here in 2021 they have built 3 new garden rooms and we are staying in one of them.
We spent these first few days in Moshi, catching up with Robert and making plans for our trip and our school visits. We also spent some time sorting out a local SIM card and data package for my phone. We went out for dinner one night at Kili Home bar which is a favourite place of ours. We were joined by Robert and his friends Abdullah and Evodi who we know well. I have to say the food was even better than I remember and there was loads of it.
Another day we walked down to the ACTT office and spent the morning catching up with the staff and having lunch at Mama Irene’s. After lunch we were going to walk back to More Than A Drop but it was boiling hot so Robert insisted that Boniface drop us in the car. When we realised how hot it was we were very grateful.
On our last day in Moshi we were invited for lunch at Robert’s home. This is always a treat as Mama Diana (Robert’s wife) always provides some wonderful food. On this occasion we were also joined by a couple of ladies who are involved in another educational project with Robert. We had met one of the ladies before many years ago so it was nice to catch up. It was also great to spend time with Dimitra, Robert’s youngest daughter who is growing up fast. As always it was a lovely visit.
Once we got back from Robert’s house we spent the evening packing for our safari. We would be leaving first thing the following morning.
