Day 3
We had a thunderstorm over night with heavy rain which made the camp pretty muddy this morning. We had breakfast with Alladin at 7 and were on our way by 7.45.
The tracks were very muddy and water logged making the driving pretty difficult for Alladin. This morning we drove over to an area called The Hidden Valley. We saw several hyenas, some reedbuck and hartebeast, some warthogs and even a turtle plus of course other antelope and zebra. The weather was warm but pretty overcast.
We stopped for a picnic lunch which was good but during the afternoon the clouds got blacker and more threatening. We did see some giraffe and a couple of tortoises. We had also noticed over the last few days that quite a few zebra had already given birth but today we also saw a couple of young wildebeest.
By now it was about 3.30 and there was not a lot going on so we decided to head back to camp. However on the way Pete spotted a lion up a tree. While we were watching we saw another lion over the other side of the valley and then a different lion climbing a tree.
After this we did return to camp to do our packing as we would be moving on tomorrow.
Day 4
We had breakfast at 7.30am, said goodbye to the camp staff and were on our way by 8.15.
The first part of the journey was a game drive through Ndutu. Notable sightings this morning included a jackel , a slender mongoose, some young giraffe and some eland.
We arrived at Naabi Hill gate at about 11. Alladin did the paperwork and we stretched our legs. We were on our way again within about 30 minutes. They first part of the drive through the Serengeti was fairly quiet but once we turned off the main road we saw some mating hyenas and a couple of young cheetah.
We stopped for lunch under a tree. Today we had chicken, vegetables and rice…..a huge portion. Luckily it was very nice.
After lunch we saw some buffalo, followed by another couple of cheetahs and some topi.
It was mid afternoon when we saw some more elephants.
This was followed by a trip to the river to see the hippos who were very smelly.
We also saw a very cute dwarf mongoose, some different birds and a troop of baboons.
Our final sighting of the day was a hyena den with one small cub and 2 tiny babies.
We arrived at the Tanzania Bush Camp - Serengeti about 5pm. We were greeted with juice, a sandwich and a towel while we listened to the introduction. This is a sister camp to the one we stayed at in Ndutu, but this one is semi permanent whereas the one in Ndutu is mobile.
We are in Tembo tent, coincidentally the same name that we had in Ndutu. The tent is lovely. We settle in, then shower before meeting Alladin for dinner.
