2 Nights at Little Okavango Camp
Today we are moving from the Seronera region of the Serengeti to a camp just outside the Ndabaka gate, close to Lake Victoria.
We leave camp around 8 and drive to the Ikoma gate to exit the park at around 10.30 and then head towards Lamadai. We did a bit of a game drive until we exited the park when we had to put the roof down.
When we arrived at Little O we had to say goodbye to Alladin. We thanked him for a fantastic safari and wished him a safe trip back to Arusha. I think we had really had some wonderful sightings, the camps had been lovely and Alladin had been a brilliant guide and great company.
Once Alladin had left we were shown around the camp by the camp manager and then shown to our room. They have made quite a few improvements since we were last here 3 years ago. They now have raised walkways connecting all the rooms to the dining/lounge area as well as a bird hide overlooking the channel. It’s all lovely.
We spent the afternoon watching the weaver birds from the bird hide and just generally relaxing.
We are the only guests here tonight. The staff light a fire for us for pre dinner drinks and chat with us. We have dinner about 7.30 which is 4 courses and really nice.
The next day we had arranged to go for a canoe ride first thing followed by breakfast in the their tower which overlooks Lake Victoria. Our guide for the morning is Joseph.
We set off in the canoe at 8, heading down the channel doing some bird watching as we go. It’s so peaceful and calm.
The first thing we see is a local fisherman on his homemade raft checking his fish traps.
After a while we reach Lake Victoria. There are several fishing boats bringing in their catch. We also meet a hippo.
After a while we head to the tower for breakfast. On the way we get a bit stuck but luckily we are soon moving again.
We climb the tower and find Johan, the camp manager and breakfast waiting for us.
There is actually a kitchen in the tower, so the chef is also there and cooks breakfast for us which is lovely.
After we have eaten we spend another hour or so in their “lounge area” watching the birds. We also climbed up to the top of the tower for the views. The tower is a very unique place to spend some time and relax.
Eventually it was time to leave and we canoed back to camp, going a different way.
We spent the afternoon around the camp watching more birds.
At around 6.30 Joseph took us to a smaller tower in the camp, for the views and to watch the sunset before dinner.
After dinner it was time for packing and bed as early tomorrow morning Robert was picking us up for the drive to Mwanza.
